The Tree Kings in Mexico

The three Kings Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar brought three gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to Bethlehem when Maria gave birth to Jesus. On this traditional day (the 6th of January), the kids in Mexico also receive gifts. The stores are open all night long, so the three kings can buy the gifts.Traditionally every kid and some adults send a gas balloon and a card written with a wish to the kings to the heavens. On this day people eat sweet bread with dry fruit and 3 small figures in it which of course symbolize the kings. If you find one in your piece of cake you have to give a party on the 2nd of February.

The Tree KingĀ“s fair

On this day the towns and cities are filled with fairs, people come to send their balloons, take pictures with the three kings and have fun. Usually these fairs have wild machines and stands where they sell food, drinks, candy floss, etc. Some men wear fake beards and some women wear false eyelashes or princess crowns.
